Abstract

Comparison of Methods of Detecting Bacterial Biofilm by Yutaka Tajima, Tatsuo Yamaguchi, Rie Takagi, Tamiko Nakajima, Yoshihiko Kominato

Fresh bacterial biofilm produced by Staphylococcus epidermidis was sensitively detected by using a chemiluminescent probe. Its lower detection limit was around 10-5 - 10-4 dilution (equivalent to 10-5 - 10-4 cm² biofilm) - 10² - 103 times as sensitive as ordinary colorimetric methods. The linearity and dynamic range were slightly better than those of fluorometry.
